Baby care: potty training made easy
Potty training is inevitable. When your babies grow into toddlers, they would need to undergo potty training. It is just one of the many things they (and you) need to face as they transition into being a full-blown toddler. There have been numerous opinions as well as suggested techniques on this subject. However, parents should know that the key to successful potty training would be common sense and by simply being there as a parent. Here are some of the most common problems and concerns that you might come across as you potty train your baby, along with the ways to deal with them.
1. Having a car accident? If you have started letting your child wear underwear at times and diapers at other times, chances are, your child is a bit confused. Make sure that you create a technique in such a way that your child would be able to distinguish which is which. Also, if you want your child to wear underwear instead of diapers when you go out, you could try bringing along a portable potty chair in your car.
2. Having a new sibling. For babies and toddlers, having a new sibling which is younger than them could cause a problem in potty training, as the child suddenly feels that all the attention has been shifted to his new sibling, resulting in him wanting to go back to wearing diapers thinking that that would bring back the attention to him. You would just need to think of ways in making sure that the child would still feel special and that he is already growing up to be a big boy who would need to take care of his little brother or sister.
3. The child dislikes the idea of wearing underwear. This is actually a fairly common problem. The good thing is that today, there are many choices in disposable underwear or diapers that seem like underwear. This would be able to help the baby or the child to gradually transition into actually wearing underwear.
4. Bed wetting during naptime or while sleeping at night. You would just need to make sure that your baby or toddler has not had too much to drink an hour or so before sleeping. You could allow him to drink a small glass of water if he asks, but not too much.
5. Your child really prefers wearing diapers. You could make use of some kind of rewards system like giving small gifts or treats to encourage your little one to potty train.
6. Your child is showing no desire in potty training. Just make sure that you will give your child enough time to deal with this milestone ?be careful not to force it. Forcing potty training would just make everything a lot more difficult. You could watch out for signs of readiness to help you out.
7. If your baby or toddler is showing no interest at all or is giving up, just be patient and let your child make his potty training progress.
8. If your baby or toddler seems confused by the adults around him as he tries to potty train, try to just keep the viewers around at a minimum, probably just the mother and the father.
9. Your child gets angry as he attempts to potty train. You would just need to calm your toddler and gently explain that potty training would be part of growing up to be a big boy.
10. Your child shows no interest at all. To be able to deal with this problem, you would just need to wait until the time your child is ready both physically and mentally.
