Baby bassinets

A bassinet is a bed specifically for babies from birth to about four months, and small enough to provide a “cocoon” that small babies find comforting. Baby bassinets are used in nurseries, delivery rooms and special birthing units. Infant bassinets are usually designed to eliminate unnecessary disturbances of infants. Bassinets provide a safe environment in which an infant child can rest. The bassinet is a child sleeping assembly that has a flat floor on which is a mattress pad with a fitted sheet. The child lies in the assembly. Usually a bassinet can accommodate a child until the child is about three months old. Many kinds of bassinet structures are already well known and most of them are in the form of a rectangular construction. A baby can lie on such kind of bassinet and be taken care by his parents or babysitter.

Bassinets and cradles are generally small and can be kept in a parent’s room so that the infant is close to the parents during its first few months. Bassinets typically include an oblong-shaped basket having a floor, raised walls, and an open top. A mattress and/or other suitable cushioning are typically provided within the basket for enhancing the comfort of the child. The basket is often provided on some form of stand to elevate the level of the basket for ease of use. Modern day bassinets are often covered with cloth and frilly lace. The bassinet is typically mounted on a rigid structure which may contain four wheels or contain two stationary legs and two legs which have wheels at their bottom. Bassinet and playpen, which become necessities to every family having a young child or baby, are considered as conveniences tools to carry and accommodate the baby respectively. Many types of baby playpen-bassinet combinations are currently available on the market. These baby playpen-bassinet combinations are different from one another mainly in the mechanism by which the baby bassinet is mounted onto the baby playpen.

As families have become increasingly mobile, it has become increasingly desirable to provide a portable bassinet to accommodate this mobility. The walls and floor of the portable bassinets are typically made of fabric material. This material allows for the bassinet to be easily folded into a portable position. Portable bassinet-play yard combinations are used by sleeping infants or new mothers who want to minimize lifting and bending associated with routine tasks such as changing and dressing babies. Bassinets typically have four sides and a floor which define an enclosed volume for an infant. Such baby bassinets typically rest on a ledge in the upper area of a play yard or are suspended from the upper rails of the walls of a play yard.
